CAREER BIOGRAPHY Keith Covey was Director of Facilities Management and Planning at Carleton College from 1984 through July, 2000. He joined the Carleton staff in 1973 as planning and construction coordinator. He will retire from the Carleton Facilities staff at the end of December, 2000. As director, he was responsible for facilities operations, campus and facilities planning, and construction. He directed an 83 member staff which operates and maintains 1.5 million sq. ft. of space in 34 campus buildings and 44 off-campus houses and auxiliary structures. His community activities have included a two terms as mayor of Northfield (1975-77), the Northfield Planning Commission, a downtown planning task force in the 1980's, Middle School Re-use study, 1985, director and president of the Northfield Rotary Club, board member of the Northfield Soccer Association, and licensed track and field starter and referee at the high school and college levels. He currently serves on the committee to rewrite the Northfield Comprehensive Plan and is a founder and director of the Northfield Downtown Development Corporation. Before coming to Carleton, he worked for eight years in architectural offices, primarily on education projects, in the University of Minnesota's planning office, and, for three years, was manager of the Northfield Area Chamber of Commerce. He received the Bachelor of Architecture degree from lowa State University, and M.A. from the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs of the University of Minnesota.
