I can't see how my skills would be useful to a campaign.
When will you contact me?
Unless we have an immediate request for skills that you have, you may not hear from us for a while. But when we get a request for something we think is a good match for you then you'll definitely hear.
Do I have a choice of which projects I work on?
Of course! We'll contact you (initially by email) when we see a campaign request that seems to fit your skills. You can always say no, whether because you don't have time, because you're not comfortable with the requirements or the job, or because you're not interested in that campaign or candidate. We'll still ask you next time (although after repeated rejections, we'll probably get the message and stop asking).
How do you decide if a campaign is "progressive"?
Fortunately for us, we don't have to decide. You do. If we get a request that nobody wants to help with, then it doesn't matter if it's the best progressive cause in the world. If lots of our people want to help a campaign that has dubious progressive credentials, then who are we to argue with that?
Can I only work on high-profile campaigns?
Not likely. High-profile campaigns (like U.S.Senate and President) also tend to have a lot of money to spend, and don't need to rely on volunteers for creative services. There may be fringe areas or parts of a large campaign that are not heavily funded that our volunteers can help with. But Creativeprogressive's goal is to help campaigns do what they otherwise couldn't do, so we hope you have at least some interest in working smaller.
I can't see how my skills would be useful to a campaign.
The truth is, lots of campaigns probably can't either, but we're trying to change that. Obvious areas like graphic (print) design and web design get the most requests, but we're hoping by presenting campaigns with other options will make them think better about the quality of their public image in a broader way.
Every professional category we have listed on our form can be useful to a campaign, from our perspective. Screenwriters can write really amazing speeches, event planners can make fundraisers incredible. Improv comedians and acting coaches (we believe) can be invaluable to a candidate by teaching him or her speaking, interview, and debate skills.
